Name: Amerigo Eugenio Reis
Age: 29
Gender: Cis male (he/him)
Nationality: Afro-Brazilian
Role: Doctor
Personality: Amerigo is... not a nice person. He's not mean, though. He fits comfortably between the two and that is just fine with him. He comes off as cold, calculated, and callous, mostly because he is those things. He values logic over anything and anyone's feelings, including his own, and he's so used to violence and conflict that he doesn't really bat an eye at it. He prefers to be alone and is rather antisocial. That being said, Amerigo became a doctor for a reason. His views are very humanitarian, and he genuinely does care about others, even when he doesn't act like he does. He's very protective of the people he's around, and warm and affectionate towards those he cares about. Amerigo's Asperger's diagnosis doesn't slow him down at all, but he is very socially awkward and that can partially be linked to it. He gets absorbed in his work easily, and often works well past set hours because of that. Amerigo is very paranoid, and rightfully so after the childhood he lived. He's organised, though, and makes decisions quickly because he refuses to let himself second guess things. He doesn't really argue with people- if anyone tries to argue with him, he often simply brushes them off.
Appearance: A little over six feet tall, it's safe to say Amerigo is not a short person. He's reasonably muscular, and not in a steroids-y type of way. His skin is fairly dark and he has dark eyes to match. Amerigo's dreads are basically his pride and joy, as he's been growing them out for as long as he can remember and has rarely brushed them out. On the rare occasion that he does, they're usually back within two days at the very most. He dresses in a manner that falls right between formal and casual, though it's rare to see him without his lab coat on. His right leg is a metal prosthetic that's always hidden by his jeans, and despite the fact his ex spouse passed away nearly two years ago, he still wears his wedding ring, which is the only piece of jewelry he doesn't refuse to wear.
Other: Amerigo's right leg is a prosthetic, and he does fall on the Autism spectrum.
History: Amerigo hails from Jacarezinho, a favela of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He had a fairly large family growing up, and it was difficult for their parents to support them. Amerigo couldn't exactly get a job when he was in his preteens, but he found a way to make money that got him involved with Brazil's massive drug trade. It was a violent lifestyle that Amerigo couldn't quite get out of, but he continued to go to school, because he knew what he wanted out of life and the drug trade was not it. Unfortunately, he didn't get out before getting severely injured, losing his right leg after a car crash that was a result of gang violence.
Once he graduated high school, Amerigo jumped on the first plane to the United States that he could. Paranoid that people from his past felt betrayed by his leaving and were after him- a very common thing- he changed the spelling of his name and went under the radar. He attended a community college in a small town in Arizona, and that was where he met his husband, Jerran. The two never actually dated- they met after Jerran refused to let Amerigo drive home drunk after a party and hit it off. They became best friends, eventually practically moving in together. One night, after a few glasses of wine, Amerigo told Jerran that his feelings towards his companion were a little more than platonic, and Jerran returned those feelings. Two weeks later, after six years of being just friends, the two eloped at a court house, making a genuine commitment- leaving each other was not an option.
Frankly, the three years Amerigo spent married to Jerran were easily the happiest of his life. The two bought and renovated a house together, got a dog together, and were just beginning the process of adopting a child together when a fire broke out in the house while Amerigo wasn't home. Jerran was, though, and they found his body among the rubble.
Amerigo moved on. After all, people die all the time, for all sorts of reasons, right? He at least likes to pretend he's completely over it a year later, but no-one ever really gets over something like that. In a completely unsubtle bid to get away from the small town in Arizona that had taken so much from him, he applied to work on a reservation in Africa as a doctor. He got the job, packed his bags, and took the first flight out he could get.
