Ｔｗｏ Ｐａｃｋｓ． Ｖａｓｔ Ｔｅｒｒｉｔｏｒｉｅｓ．
Ａ Ｂｌｏｏｄｙ Ｈｉｓｔｏｒｙ．

hint: if you don't want to read all this, you can just check out the introduction section!
It doesn't have all the detail, but it will tell you the basics of what you need to know to start the rp.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask!

_____An old grey wolf sat before a group of young pups, smiling at them as they bustled around. Their constant play and bickering was music to his old ears. But the pups all quieted, their ears and eyes coming to attention when the elder spoke. His voice was gruff, and overtime had become choppy, just like his coat, which had at one point been pure black. It was littered with specks of grey and white in his old age.
"How about I tell you a story, young ones...?" The pups all nodded in agreement, starting to settle down, manoeuvring so their bodies were no longer intertwined with one another's, and the old wolf began. "Just like any other story, this one starts off with Once upon a time...
_____"Generations ago, before we came to the Second Kingdom, there was a large pack of wolves. Wolves of all different colours, shapes, sizes, and personalities. These wolves lived in peace under the reign of their Alpha, Solomon. The Alpha - a simple grey wolf, who had a ragged coat but a frame underneath that screamed, 'don't mess with me' - was both kind and gracious, as well as fair. Ruling alongside him was his mate, Laurel, a pure white wolf. She was just as kind as he, and beautiful in every way a wolf might be. The pair, like any other, had pups of their own. Two sons, one a light brown wolf, and the other black as the stormy night he was born on.
_____"Rightfully, the black pelted son, Benton, would be the next ruler of the pack, older by age. But the lord and his lady would soon come to realise that their youngest son, Angus, was the better ruler of the two. Where Angus would stop and say hello to anyone he came across, a passionate and gentle young soul, Benton would tear apart anything in his path that kept him from his goal. Of course, Benton did not see his way as the 'wrong way', so he continued on his path, believing that everyone else was mistreating him, when truthfully it was he at fault. Even though many tried to tell him this, the most common culprit being his own brother, Benton did not see it. It was not his way, so he began to hate. His brother. His mother. His father as well.
_____"It was not until Solomon was on his death bed, that he finally made a decision, one that would ripple through the land, following his kins' footsteps, wherever their paths carried them; 'Angus, my son,' the old Alpha croaked, 'You will carry on in my footsteps. Lead them well.'
_____"This did not sit well with Benton, who was enraged and stinging with hurt. The older brother, rightful ruler in his own mind, lashed out at his brethren, and went off into the night. A few of the more loner-types of the pack, the ones who believed that he was indeed the rightful ruler and that his way was best, followed after him. This night would come to be known as the Great Divide."
_____The old wolf paused, looking around, letting his words sink in; the little pups didn't need to know about Angus and Benton's families, or the way that the packs were faring. He didn't want to give them nightmares. No, they were to be as innocent as they could, for as long as they could. So he paused, and thought about it quietly to himself.

_____Three years passed, and life in the mountains was harder than any of the pack had ever experienced before. The land barren, the weather cold and wet, leaving little prey to escape winter's clutches. The pack, known as Luna, was thin and bedraggled, and they wanted things to change. Tired of the way they were living, missing the old pack and the abundant food, most wanted to go to war and reclaim their rightful home, while others, a select few, wanted to settle things peacefully.
_____King Benton had grown bitter and hateful over the years, his rage increased tenfold, and his hurt had turned into hate and bitterness. He wanted revenge, for being mistreated, for the lack of love, and for not being able to have what was rightfully his. He had a family of his own, if that is what one would call his mating agreement. A mate who loved him dearly, Bea, but whom Benton rarely paid any attention to. His daughter, Vida, was stubborn, headstrong, and very much like the Benton's younger brother. He also had a son, Orson, who lived and breathed his father's every word.
_____It is time. Time for a war, a battle to overtake what should rightfully be his.
_____The Solis pack were happy and healthy. The land was prospering and warm, producing plenty of prey for the many wolves. Here the canines were left to wonder what happened to their brethren and how they were. Sometimes they looked to the mountain tops, covered in snow and shrouded in mist, hoping to see their long lost family...
_____Alpha Angus was happy and had a family of his own that was bright and wondrous. Fallon, daughter by blood, and son, Kane, that he and his beautiful mate Kaira adopted when the pup found himself without his blood parents. Angus's son and daughter were both promising young individuals who were welcome to live any life they please, their parents having decided long ago that the pups would be able to choose their own paths in life.
_____Angus was weary of his brother, a black presence in his mind that rubbed away at his resolve every waking moment. He worried about the presence of spies, or assassins, unknown threats he could barely guard against. But, unlike Benton, he still kept his sanity.

_____The Elder's thoughts were interrupted as one of the pups impatiently hurried him on, too entranced in the story to bother letting him have time to collect his thoughts, "Alright, alright... now where was I...? Ah, yes..."
_____"The King of the Mountain, as Benton preferred to be recalled, never got to launch his war plans into action, because before he got the chance, his own daughter, along with the pack's 'Slaves', began a rebellion. The Slave rank was the lowest of the low in the new ranking system in Luna, and they were brutally mistreated. Vida had never liked how things were run, how the lesser wolves were mistreated, so with everything they had, the little group of rebels fought away from the pack, and slipped away down the mountain, knowing that they could only ever find salvation in Alpha Angus's lands.
_____Old Angus, unnerved by the sudden change, was reluctant to accept this strange band of riffraff, not believing he could trust these wolves. But his son, Kane, took an interest in Vida, and stepped forward, and as the future Alpha of the pack, he persuaded his father.
_____Two years down the road, Solis' Alpha pair, Kane and the Rebellion Leader, Vida, were expecting, as well as many of the other pairs in the pack. But the same was happening high in the mountain tops where Vida's brother had taken over the Luna pack. Orson wanted to kill his sister, and watch her blood run red, to cause her the pain that her betrayal caused their parents. What way better to do this than to take a pup of her own, and raise it as his, to use as a weapon against her? With his mate Aurélie not knowing of the plans that were about to unfold, she went to her birthing den on the same night as Vida did hers. One of the old King's spies, who had been living out his days in the Solis pack, stole one of the Vida's pups, and took it to Orson, and the young King slipped the pup into his mate's birthing den. Aurélie, believing the pup was theirs, never blinked an eye at him.
_____King Orson now had a secret weapon, but then, so did the Alpha pair; the brother of the stolen pup, who, unbeknownst to his kin, would one day bring peace to the packs.
_____A year and a half down the line, Vida's pup, Aaron, was a happy, bouncy, and adventurous juvenile. One day, he meandered too close to the border, and was captured by his very own brother, Quinlan. Though neither of the teens knew that they were related at all, they felt like they knew each other. Soon they start to converse, and they realised that they had the same oddly shaped mark, a combination of a sun and a moon, on the pads of their opposing front feet. Together, they go and confront their true mother, Quinlan sneaking away from the border of the Luna territory, curiosity getting the better of him.
_____Vida knew instantly that the pup was her son, stolen from her long ago. She welcomed Quinlan into the pack with open arms, but Quinlan and Aaron decide they want to leave the lands that were tormented with the Great Divide, and with a group of younger wolves, all with their own personalities but the same mindsets, set out to find their own lands and fates. A happier place, where everyone can be together as one..."
_____The elder overlooked the young pups as they began to settle down, eyelids fluttering shut, and little mouths coming wide open in yawns to reveal little sharp teeth. He made a rumbling sound of content, settling his head down on his forepaws and looking up the hill he lay at the base of, and smiling at the sight of Quinlan speaking to his brother, just like old pals.

_____Now settled in the newly founded Second Kingdom, Quinlan and Aaron have split the land evenly. Quinlan has taken the harsher land on the behalf of the Arena pack, consisting of semi-arid plains, swamps, and marshy terrain. Aaron and the Folium pack have claimed dense woodlands and grassy plains as their territory. A river twists through both their territories, looping back and forth across the land, drawing predators and prey alike to the water.
_____Although the new peace between the brothers still holds, tension has arisen between the young packs. The descendants of the wolves from Solis and Luna had very different upbringings, and it's beginning to show in their views and opinions, which, as it's becoming increasingly clear, are vastly different. Quinlan and Aaron have fought hard for the peace among their packmates, but their differences seem almost too great an obstacle to overcome. It's unclear whether the peace will last, or if war will once again mar Quinlan and Aaron's lives.

Ｔｈｒｅａｄ Ｒｕｌｅｓ

one. All of tess' rules apply.

two. You should post at least once a week - but the more, the better.

three. Your post must have at least five sentences; long paragraphs are encouraged.

four. Proper grammar, spelling and punctuation is essential.

five. No god modding, powerplaying, perfect characters etc.

six. The maximum number of characters allowed is three. Keep genders even if possible.

seven. Pelt and eye colours must be natural. Wings/magical powers etc. are banned. All sexualities are allowed.

eight. Your characters cannot be mentor and apprentice, mates, or crushes with each other. They can be family.

nine. You may have mates at the beginning if both users agree to it. Crushes are encouraged.

ten. 'Fade to black' when appropriate e.g. mating, giving birth, violent fighting.

eleven. All dams may have up to three pups; you should find users other than yourself to roleplay them, and you cannot roleplay any if you are already at your character limit.

twelve. Hunting and fighting scenarios must be realistic. It may take three wolves to take down larger prey, for example.

twelve. When fighting, ensure you have the user's permission to attack/injure/kill their character!

thirteen. Signatures must be disabled for your roleplaying posts for neatness. I will temporarily suspend characters if this rule isn't followed.

fourteen. Post your character's form in the discussion and forms thread.

If you know you're going to be absent, please let me know! Users who haven't posted in the last two weeks will be removed from the roleplay. You can rejoin if you return within the next week. After that though, you will not be able to rejoin with the same or different characters. If you have an unexplained absence a second time, you will be removed after 2 weeks of not posting and cannot rejoin. In certain circumstances I may be lenient. If you have commitments like school or work that's understandable, but you should only join this rp if you can work around them and be active.

New rules may be added during the roleplay. I will make some indication so that people are aware and can review them.

Ｐａｃｋ Ｒｕｌｅｓ

These rules can be broken, but there will be repercussions for your character if their rule-breaking is discovered.

one. You may not become mates with a wolf from another pack.

two. The alpha eats first, always. Then betas; then elders, medics and mothers with their pups; and finally the rest of the pack. Omegas eat last.

three. The day after each full moon, mentors and their trainees from each pack must meet at the border between the two packs, and spend the day sharing training techniques and socialising. This encourages a good relationship between the two packs and teaches the younger generation the importance of peace. Any mentor found shirking their duty in this area will have their trainee transferred to another wolf, and may be relegated to the Omega rank temporarily if the alpha feels this is necessary.

four. You must not disobey the alpha's commands.

five. Mentors may only train one wolf at a time, and a mentor-trainee pair cannot be immediate family. This also applies to Medics and their trainees.

six. You must not cross into the territory of the other pack without due reason, unless you have been given permission by one of the alphas, whether they be from your pack or the other pack.

seven. Pups must not be left unsupervised. The entire pack must take responsibility for caring for and protecting all pups.

eight. Medics/Healers are permitted to accompany subordinates to hunt or check borders if they have no current medical duties to attend to.

Ａｒｅｎａ Ｐａｃｋ

emperor & empress — The leaders of the pack. They make the decisions, enforce rules, provide punishments or promotions, and work as a complementary team to guide the pack. They are traditionally mated. They always eat first.

legates — These two wolves are second in command. It's common for them to become mates, simply because they work so closely together. They assist the emperor/empress in enforcing rules, but are not allowed to distribute punishments. They are also the next-in-line to be emperor/empress. If they are mated, they are both heirs and become emperor and empress together; if they are not, the beta who was appointed first is the heir. They eat second.

medic(s) — Medics, as the name suggests, are in charge of the pack's health, healing with the help of herbs. There is one medic for every five wolves in the pack.

legionnaires — The majority of the pack. These wolves hunt and protect the pack from threats.

dams — A temporary rank given to mothers whose pups are younger than 3 months.

trainees — Wolves from the age of 3 months to 1 year, in training to become subordinates.

elders — Wolves from the age of 10-15 years. Beyond this, they die of old age. Elders eat immediately after the legates, as a sign of respect for their long service.

pups — Young wolves up to the age of 3 months. They are cared for by both their mother and the other wolves of the pack, both male and female. It is the whole pack's responsibility to protect, care for, and raise them.

omegas — The lowest rank in the pack. Typically assigned as a form of punishment from the alpha for disobeying pack rules or conspiring against the pack.

centurions — An honorary rank given to wolves who have distinguished themselves in hunting or fighting, or who have done a great service to the pack. This rank can be given to wolves outside the pack. Typically, they are treated with respect above the level of legionnaires, but below legates.

Ｃｈａｒａｃｔｅｒｉｓｔｉｃｓ

Arena wolves typically have darker coat colours, and most commonly have white, grey or black coats, although dark browns are also common. Agouti, 'jackal' and black-backed colourings are equally common in Folium as in Arena. Most of them have darker eye colours, some bordering on black, others closer to a deep amber colour. Arena wolves tend to be physically larger than Folium wolves, some reaching 90-95cm at the shoulder. They have more pronounced musculature, but often this strength and size comes at the expense of agility and speed.

❝ The Swamp ❞

A boggy, muddy area among a large copse of
trees by the river. Almost always wet and
treacherous ground, but plenty of small prey
like frogs and birds can be found here. Few
predators.

❝ The Plains ❞

A wide, open area of tough grass, with sparse
trees and not much else. The river winds
through here. A good place to find larger
prey like deer and elk, although competitors
such as bears and coyotes are also common.

❝ The Caves ❞

The most dangerous part of the territory. It's
easy to get lost or trapped after the unstable
earth crumbles without warning. It boasts an
impressive variety of herbs, so medics are
permitted to enter if they're struggling to
replenish their stocks. A common challenge
among trainees is to go in as far as they dare.

place to get water. Prey is very abundant
here, and a even a wolf hunting on its own
can quite easily have a successful hunt, as
long as only a few predators are around.

A field close to the river where wildflowers
bloom in great numbers during the spring.
It's neutral territory, as it's where mentors
and trainees from both packs meet every
full moon. It's a favoured place for training
to fight, and and mock battles between the
packs are common.

Ｃｈａｒａｃｔｅｒｉｓｔｉｃｓ

Folium wolves typically have light coat colours, and most commonly have light brown, russet, or cream pelts, although light greys are also common. Agouti, 'jackal' and black-backed colourings are equally common in Folium as in Arena. Most of them have lighter eye colours, some pale as ice, others bright blues and greens, and occasionally golden or light brown. Folium wolves tend to be on the smaller side, from 75-85cm at the shoulder. They tend to be thinner and leaner, making them agile and fast but with diminished strength.

Ｔｅｒｒｉｔｏｒｙ

❝ The Forest ❞

Makes up most of Folium territory. A mix of
deciduous and evergreen trees that provide
shelter to a vast variety of animals; squirrels,
rabbits, raccoons, badgers and some smaller
species of deer, to name a few.

❝ The Plains ❞

A slightly hilly area of green grass, with no
trees whatsoever. The river winds through
here. A good place to find larger prey like
deer and elk, although competitors such as
bears and coyotes are also common.

❝ The Meadow ❞

A large clearing in the forest with lush green
grass. It's often the first place where mothers
take their pups to play after they leave the
den due to how safe it is. It's also often used
for training, and while prey isn't usually very
abundant, deer sometimes pass through and
rabbits can be found fairly easily.

across when cars are coming to prove their
speed, much to the alpha's displeasure.

Season and Weather

xxxIt is currently mid-spring. The weather is most often
pleasantly warm and sunny, although a few hot days have
started to make their appearance, marking the beginning
of summer.

xxxAt present it is late morning, and the day is already
warm. There is a hint of rain in the air, though the sky is
still almost cloudless at the moment.
