through the air as rain dribbled from
the sky. A crack of thunder overhead
sounded like a natural alarm. You are
walking down the street in an unknown city,
alone. Papers and shattered glass are
crushed under every step you take and a cool
wind blows, causing your clothes to snap
against your body. Sprinkling rain over head
chills you and causes many nostalgic
memories to play back through your mind.
As you take a few more steps, the wind dies
down. Roots and weeds have begun to peek
out of the cracks in the many plant pots; they
are not kept up. The thundering clouds above
head have allowed the rain to become stronger
as it began to pour down instead of drizzle.
You begin to walk farther and reach a strange
forest in the middle of the city. The earthy
appearance of trees, soil, and life you once
saw daily has fooled you. A few moments later,
you hear a rustling from the bush nearest to you.
You pause and take a deep, quiet breath and turn
away before discovering what the sound was. Will
you turn back and learn to survive?
