Rarities

I was wondering for a while how many pets it would be to make a rarity. I'm crap at explaining, so let's just put it this way:
- How many pets on CS does it take for a pet to become an OMGSC or an OMGSR?
Basically, how many pets do you think are in the game to make them either an Uncommon, Common, V-Common, OMG-Common to a Rare, V-Rare, OMG-rare?

Here are some numbers from 2009. There hasn't been any numbers released since this.
Right now the rarities are:
OMG so rare! (less than 1 pet per 1000 users)
Very rare (less than 1 pet per 80 users)
Rare (less than 1 pet per 25 users)
Uncommon (less than 1 pet per 5.5 users)
Common (less than 1 pet per 3 users)
Very common (more than 1 pet per 3 users)

So isn't that really inaccurate? If there hasn't been any updates despite the increase of CS population in 9 years?

      I don't think that those numbers are necessarily inaccurate...

      ie) If a rare means there's less than 1 pet per 25 users, it doesn't matter if the CS population is 25 or 25000, that ratio should still be the same. And you can see how this is reflected right after the Dec 18th re-release event.

      I think if there was a change in these ratios, there would've been an announcement about it. Just my two cents, only the admins can say for sure.

These are mostly my thoughts as well (even with the addition of OMGSC in 2012, because after discounting the inactive users--which could've done all the rarity shifting work on its own--they could've just added a new threshold like "more than 1 per 1 user" or something), except those numbers are in a post of Nick's and he was answering a user question (i.e. it wasn't an announcement) and he also said "right now" which makes me think that the numbers are subject to change

So it's kinda like we're at an impasse: there's no definite reason that the numbers would change, but there's no definite reason that the numbers wouldn't change, either

I can't really see how it would stay the same statistically but I'm going to fail math anyway ;)

We know those rarities have changed because of the great rarity adjustment that happened some time ago but definitely after 2009. There were too many pets tagged as rarer than they should be so the rarities were rebalanced. I don't remember the details though.
But also, OMGSC now exists and in 2009 it did not.

As a side note, by "user", what is meant is "active user" as inactive accounts no longer count towards rarities.

Nick gave a bit of an explanation in 2012 when the rarity system was changed that might help with your question, though unfortunately he didn't break it down into pets per player like he did in '09
