Follower System??

Hey,
I'm kinda tired of having to constantly search up specific users so I can look at their oekaki, ... so this is why I think that there should be a follower system.

How does the follower system work?
When you follow someone, any forums, oekaki's, or anything they post will come up as a notification - or to make it more easier for the hardworking people that run this site, you will receive a message from the message box saying that ________ has posted something.

How does the notification thing work?
Well, there can be a notification button where the other buttons are. The notification button will be more about who followed you and new content from the people you follow, not like messages from other players.

ex.: My account • Trades • _ new messages • Notifications • My posts... Logout [ ✿ madi ✿ ]

Okay, but how do you follow someone?
There can be this thing where when you go on someone's profile, it will have a follow button. And in addition to that, when you see a user's post, below the information buttons will be a follow button.

ex: Username:✿ madi ✿
Interests:ramen
Groups: Registered users
Follow user

ex: User avatar
✿ madi ✿

What happens when you follow someone?
You know when you move a pet from a group to another group and it says

The pets that you ticked have been moved to their new group.

» Go to the new group
» Go back to the group you last viewed

It should be similar where when you follow someone is says something like

You have followed ________.

» Go see their art gallery
» Go see their forums

Conclusion
Sorry this is like a big idea that seems like it needs a lot of programming to do, but it would be of great use to me and would help me so much. If there is another forum about or similar to this, let me know! And if there is already a system similar, please also let me know. Thanks if you read, support or at least give me your opinion about this suggestion.

I think this would be a good idea for those who like to look at others' Oekaki. Although I feel like it would cause topics such as 'Follow me!' or so
I think you're able to add someone to your friendlist (It doesn't notify them right?) so you can easily go to your account and click their name there then 'Go to gallery' to see the art if this idea doesn't come through.

As long as you wouldn't be able to see how many followers a person has (that has been turned down because it would turn into a popularity contest), I think this is an awesome idea!

what kind of competition though? if there isn't any way to see how many followers a user has, there isn't any way to compete. as for spam, if someone follows you, i think it would act like if somebody adds you to their friend list; there's no notification to the person or anything like that.

Spam would be similar to what Xuoit has stated, like topics asking for a follow back and etc. Even though a follower count wouldn't be shown, some users might try to gain more popularity than others and I can see how this can result in possible debates.
