About using images from the internet

I have a question. If I wanted to use a image that I found on the internet, am I allowed to use the image on this website?
I am trying to find free images that I can use on any website but it's hard to tell. I'm having a really hard time figuring out on the internet what isn't copyrighted and what is? I don't want to be banned for a misunderstanding on my part. If anybody knows free images that I can use let me know. I just want to be safe.

It depends on the copyright surrounding the images. Some images would be alright to use, others would not. Some you have to ask for permission from the artist/owner first.
