Jack's POV
A fish had crossed the stream in front of me one day. I was out traveling a dirt path in the forest, searching for treasures of some sort. I wasn't sure why the fish caught my attention, but it did. It was swimming against the current, seemingly stuck in a limbo as it was strong enough to stay put but not go forward. I watched it intently for some time, waiting for it's movement to falter and for it to be pushed back by the current- but it never did. It's scales glowed as the sunset caught them,
and their shade became a purple and orange rather than it's common white. Another fish soon joined it, swimming downstream in it's direction. That fish was a much duller color than the other, and was a sort of dirty bronze. As it swam past it payed no attention to the other fish. I thought it almost symbolic of life.. the fishes who conformed to the strong current were dull and unexciting, but the ones who fought the current were the truly beautiful ones. I stifled a chuckle and continued on my way,thinking over that for awhile. I guess I did end up finding a treasure after all.

Laney's POV
Around and around the bowl they swam, trapped in an endless loop. Did they realize how trapped they were? If they did, did they care?

Laney sighed as she watched them breach the top, looking for something that wasn't there. Sometimes she wished she were a fish, swimming endlessly with no goals in mind, without a care in the world. But she was here, in her run-down apartment, alone with nothing but fish for company.

Laney's shoulders sagged as she stood, moving to the bookshelf where she kept her fish food. Sprinkling a little bit on top, she watched the larger few dash to the surface while the smaller two stayed near the bottom, picking up what they could find. Something about the pathetic way the smaller fish gave in so easily to the larger made her think of herself, giving way to those stronger than her. She tensed and looked away, slamming the food back on the shelf. The fish didn't react.
