perhaps
maybe i'm drowning
alone

there's a person you love
no one says anything
no one does anything
you just know
and one day
you say something
you do something
and it turns out
they don't even know
who you are

everyone acts like they know
like they see
like they hear
but they ignore
and they look past
and cries for help fall on deaf ears
they say they're there
but when you look up
it's just you

[escapalization]

perhaps the world will end today.
tell me, child, are you afraid?

i think i'm not, because you'll find,
the end of the world might come anytime!

so should you not be always scared?

i should think not, 'cause i'm prepared!
i've got water and food for years,
and a bunker deep underground!
yes, i've got everything right here.
when it comes to the end, there's no fear to be found!

child, listen to what i've got to say.
perhaps the world will end today.
but i hope it won't, for you're still young.
run along now, and have your fun.
and perhaps,
if you hope,
you'll never
grow
older.

maybe i'm drowning

maybe i'm floating
maybe i'm flying
maybe i'm sick
maybe there's no cure
would that be so bad?
i'm not really sure
i hear them saying to get out of bed
but i think that maybe i'm drowning instead

alone among unseen dryads,
quiet under the moon;
the river sings as it slumbers,
and all else slumbers too.

the wind is weaving its patterns,
playing through the night;
boughs cast breathtaking shadows
beneath brilliantly soft starlight.

and you think, just to yourself,
that alone's not that bad after all.
