Challenge: When someone's heart breaks, so does a piece of our world. This creates fissures, valleys and even cracks in the pavement. Tell the story behind the Grand Canyon.
Their love seemed infinite, their devotion indestructible, I guess this just goes to show that everything can change. He had suspected that she was cheating, his lover wasn't the best at hiding things to begin with, but he trusted her. Surely she would never cheat on him, not when they'd been together for so long, not when they had put so much into this relationship. So instead of believing, he ignored it. From then on, he forgot about the thought. ...Then one day, February 14th, he came home to his girlfriend kissing another man. At first he didn't want to believe it, but not believing had only postponed the inevitable before. He called her name, it was shaky and quiet, but it was loud enough. She looked up suddenly, insisted that it wasn't what it looked like, and that she still loved him. All he could do was stare, watching as his one true love, the only love he had ever even known, walked out the door with someone else. As she closed the door he fell to his knees. At first his breathing was shaky, then it hitched, and turned into sobbing. He felt tears run down his face, and rubbed at them blindly. He pulled out the small box he had in his pocket, and looked at the ring inside it. He let out a loud sob, feeling his heart break, no, shatter. All he had wanted was her love, and now she was giving it to someone else. Outside their was a cracking sound, and a long, winding canyon appeared, like a scar on the Earth, like a scar on what was left of his heart.
