Scorpion tails are so much fun ^-^ This darling is based on fall things; leaves, pumpkins, a harvest moon.

For this competition, I want you to complete a prompt while including a few given design elements. I want you to show this viscet's personality in the story, and if you can include other things such as backstory while you're at it, all the better. I'm looking for creativity and completeness. You have unlimited words for this prompt, so don't hold back! You can add other things to the form and make it pretty, just remember I'm mainly looking at the prompt.

For the prompt, you can fill in the blank however you want. And throughout the story, I want to see you incorporate a few words into it! How well you incorporate these words will also help your form.

The prompt is: "You'd never believe me if I told you that _______, but it's true and I can prove it"
The required words are: Picture/Photo, Radio, Bell

Here's your base form with a little checklist to help with your story:

Code: Select all
Username:
Name:
Gender:
Story:

Prompt:
You'd never believe me if I told you that _______, but it's true and I can prove it
Elements:

Just for review, I'm looking for a well-described viscet in a completed creative writing story surrounding the prompt, while including the chosen words, and you have unlimited words to do so!

This will end on the 30th of November, so everyone has a month to create their best story possible. No extensions will be given, so use your time wisely.

Lako - Harvest Moon Tryout

    Powers Background

In the world of Albira Chiarlo, there are different levels of powers. Messengers have the most power. They can dematerialize at will to travel very quickly to anywhere in the world they are needed. In size, they appear the same as an average Viscet to appear less intimidating, but cannot be injured unless they sustain mass damage simultaneously without being able to escape. That situation is nearly impossible. Their form is not only limited to their adult Viscet shape but they appear that way most often. More importantly, they can give powers to creatures they believe will help them create balance. Powers given cannot be taken away so they must choose wisely and hope the Viscet follows the right path. Messengers can assist Viscets if they want to steer them the right way and will if they hold a special role. These powers come in different strengths.

A Demigod’s power cannot be given by a Messenger but they can still help lead them in their life. The power comes from energy that remained after the world’s creation and the energy influences an egg during predetermined points in time. The egg selection is completely random and messengers must monitor the growing Demigod closely. A demigod can live until it’s power is passed onto the next generation, or the designated purpose of that power existing is fulfilled. They can be killed prematurely through physical harm, but not age. It causes great harm to the world if a Demigod line is cut down before its job is complete.

The last two levels of power are Major and Minor powers. These powers can be given by Messengers, or a creature can be born with one by random chance. It is very rare for a Viscet to be born with multiple powers, but it is possible to end up with multiple if a Messenger is involved. Those with Major powers are often referred to as Guardians. It takes training and control to master a major power even if one is born with it. Major powers are so rare to mutate naturally that it is almost guaranteed they have been chosen by a Messenger. These powers are able to be cast large distances and have large areas of effect. Minor Powers are usually physically attached to the Viscet and must be used through touch or breath. For example, a set of poisonous teeth and claws would be classified as a Minor Power, while the ability to summon storms and electricity is a Major Power.

      Story: Part 1

It was his favorite night of the year. Lako sat outside of his home that October staring up at the full moon above him. He was happy in his little makeshift shack he constructed himself in an open grassy field. It was quiet with neighbors who kept to themselves so it was as if he had no neighbors at all. The night was going fine until he felt an unfamiliar feeling begin to crawl up his back causing his fur to stand on end. Lako stood up quickly and glanced behind him and couldn’t believe his eyes. A thick dark cloud has consumed much of the grass behind him, and the mist was reaching out for him low to the ground. As his paws were covered by the mist his fur stood up and he felt like static was rushing around him. Out of annoyance, he tried to pick up his hind paw and shake himself free of the mist. A series of small shocks zapped his foot startling him off his feet knocking him into the mist.
The darkness consumed his home, and he could see nothing. Every movement stung and he felt heavy with electricity surging around him. Occasional thunder was instantly followed by lightning which blinded him with a bright light and caused his ears to ring. His gazed fixed on the moon above him trudged forward following it, hoping it would lead him out of the storm.

His paw hit something hard giving him an extra powerful shock. Lako was caught by surprise and once again tripped to the ground. Turning around he noticed what he had tripped over. A Viscet sat on the ground, sparks surrounding them as the pouted. “Are you doing this?” he snarled at the stranger. They looked up suddenly, shocked before disappearing in a flash of lightning. Almost immediately the mist began to disperse, but just as fast as it left a new scent reached his nose. Smoke. The electricity had easily created miniature blazes that grew fast in dry grass. Fur soaked, and skin burning Lako tried his best to escape. His hearing was muffled and vision still seared with the flashes of the storm.

Feeling along the ground he found a familiar rocky path he used often. Following the path, paws aching and burned he finally came across his home. He blinked his eyes multiple times to clear them for a few moments to see what stood in front of him. Nothing did. His home was in pieces, a few embers still alive in the wreckage. He collapsed.

      🌕

      “Where did they go?”
“Look at that tail, did he do this?”
“Where did it go? The storm was just here!”

Voices and pawsteps echoed around Lako as he struggled to move. Opening his eyes he could still see the fuzzy image of his destroyed home in front of him. It wasn’t a dream. He heard a fuzzy voice behind him, but couldn’t quite make out what it said. He remained still hoping the group would pass by him. Lako snarled feeling a sudden jab in his side, like a kick. Instinctively he swiped his tail toward the attacker earning him another kick.

“Hey!” The strong voice barked down at him. “I’d watch that tail if I were you. What happened here?” the voice was far from friendly, threatening even.

The strong voice shocked Lako back to his senses. As he began to explain everything that just happened, from his normal night to the feeling of being inside a thundercloud, and the frightened Viscet he found who took the storm with it when it disappeared. As he went on the group became more interested, disbanding their investigations of the area to listen to his story. They seemed more accepting of him after learning of his destroyed home, but many were still cautious of him because of his tail.

That day he was offered a choice. He would remain in the field alone, unprotected without a home or join the group to take the world back from those with powers. He learned many of the Viscets around him had stories to tell much like his, some having most even more than just a home. He chose to join them. He learned the leader of the group had been the one to address him. She was named Obscurity, and she had a younger brother named Alcide she had nearly lost when her own mother burned down her home forest.

      Story: Part 2

The cold winds outside of his small cabin paused for a moment leaving Lako with nothing but the static in his ears like that from a radio. He lived alone now away from the pack outside of a winter village. He grew in rank in the Pack of Bane until he lead alongside Obscurity as her mate. Every day they had to worry about being betrayed, plan future attacks, and participate often in battles against powerful Viscets with unknown powers. Now Lako sat alone in his cabin with no danger, but nothing to do. He didn’t regret leaving his old life. In the end he had wanted to escape but had to stay in order to help his mate who led the group. It wasn’t until she was weakened to the point they had to flee he was finally able to leave his responsibilities. When she passed away he continued running until he was sure he was far enough away.

He could still picture the face of his son he had left behind also. He had already shown a likeness to his mother, and Lako didn’t want to be part of it. He knew, in the end, he would just be a step to power for him. He tries not to worry about his previous life but it still dwells in his mind. Sometimes the chatter of passing viscets will be changed by his mind, and he will assume the worst. He stresses over the group finding him, but he can’t even be sure they are looking.

Besides his paranoia, Lako’s biggest worry is hearing the jingle of bells approach his home. The village was too happy in his opinion and it bothered him. They would try to include them in their events, but he always denied them. It was now a night like that he had lost his first home on. The moon shone outside creating a soft glow on the snow outside his house.

The wind outside broke the static by carrying a sound Lako dreaded to his home. The jingle of bells was approaching once again. Lako grumbled before standing up to approach the door. He never answered but still liked to see who it was. Peeking through a small crack in the rickety wooden door Lako could see a small group of Visclings outside. They each wore their own costume crowded close together against the cold. They seemed too young to be seeking out his house due to rumors about him. Lako opened the door out of curiosity but immediately regretted the decision. The small Visclings froze when he answered, first noticing the annoyed look on his face, then locking their gaze on his scorpion tail. It wasn’t until a Viscet behind them gave them a shove that the three snapped out of it. “Trick or treat!” the little voices squeaked. Lako rolled his eyes, “Do you even know who I am?” he snapped at them. The Visclings only stared for a moment before together they began hurling questions at him, suddenly excited to learn more about him. Most likely they were just interested in his odd tail. He reached over taking a large box off a table beside him, holding it out towards the Visclings at a level they could see it.

“You’d never believe me if I told you I led the Pack of Bane alongside Obscurity herself, but it’s true and I can prove it.”

The visclings giggled at first, thinking of him as just another Viscet trying to tell them a scary story that Halloween. Even the older Viscet they had escorting them seemed amused, but still cautious of Lako’s snappy tone. Carefully he opened the box, revealing a broken horn Obscurity left behind. The Viscets gathered outside stared in awe until one Viscling reached out a paw to touch the fragile horn. Lako yanked the box back in shock and slammed the door closed. Still holding the box he returned to his seat. He heard the chatter and jingles fade into the distance as his world grew silent again.

      🌕

    Personality and Traits

Lako is a very closed-minded and negative Viscet who is very closed off to those he doesn’t know. He lost everything in his past due to Guardians who have acted out or created disasters while still learning to control their power. This has caused him to be very aggressive towards them giving them almost no time to explain themselves before driving them off if he sees one. Despite being very antisocial, he believes it is safer in numbers. His goal of eliminating special powers from the world also needs a large group to accomplish it. Large groups can intimidate smaller ones and the fear of being caught by the many members can disway any thoughts of traitorous actions. In Lako’s opinion, there is no way to manage a large group other than through fear. Leading through trust or respect will only cause the leader to appear weak and more vulnerable to being overthrown. He knows the dangers of manipulating others through fear, so even if a group seems obedient he will never turn his back on them.

It is very hard to get Lako’s trust, and once it is gained it can be lost forever if mistakes are made. Anyone who is trusted by him gets special treatment in the pack and is treated as an equal. Obscurity was one of the few to gain his trust. Anyone who has his trust he will speak to as more of a friend than a leader, and he will consider all of their suggestions he sees as worthy. If someone who wasn’t his friend dared to suggest something to him he would see it as an insult, that someone who means so little could offer him advice.

    Relationships

    Obscurity
At first Obscurity and Lako didn’t get along. She didn’t want him in the group because of his tail, seeing it as a power and a danger to the rest of them. He assured her he had it his entire life and has never hurt anyone with it, and he was just against powers as she was. It took a long time for her to accept him. She never allowed for his behavior when he would try to force his way into a leadership position, but was impressed by his ability to convince the others to listen to his ideas. Once they grew closer his goal changed. He no longer wanted power in the group but to keep her in power and help her. He rarely challenged her authority then and would only suggest ideas in private to maintain her strong public image.

After Obscurity is weakened by the spirits moving on from her to her son Lako chooses to stay by her side rather than raise their son to become the next leader of the pack to maintain his status. He knew the viscling would grow up to have the same dark drive as Obscurity had and would want all the power to himself, meaning an old leader staying in power would be against his plan. Their years of ruling through fear would also make them targets now that Obscurity was weak. He chose to stay with her and forced her to escape the old pack before she passed away and he had to continue running without her.

    Alcide
Alcide is Obscurity’s little brother who she is very protective over. Lako is not allowed anywhere near him, and neither is anyone else. She had nearly lost him to a fire created by her mother when she lost her home. Even in later days, he wasn’t allowed to interact with him. Lako dislikes Alcide and sees him as an entitled brat. He was given lots of attention and protection in the group while putting no effort in. Lako was almost jealous. Because of his status, Alcide was also very rude, and annoying. If he reacted badly he risked being kicked from the pack so Lako had to deal with him.

    Snowy Village
Everyone who lives in the snow village Lako sees as a pest. They are oblivious to the fights going on around the world over powers and between islands. With how many viscets live there, they could be making a big difference for either side. Instead, they build long-term homes and bring each other gifts. Many of them are skilled in various crafts that would be seen as useless to the pack, and to Lako.

To the villagers, Lako is just another Viscet. None of them pay too much mind to him or his past because he is not a threat to them. They are a very tight-knit group that could defend themselves if needed. The time of year Lako is paid the most attention is Halloween. Every neighborhood has the scary house. It is the house at the center of all the dares and bets where Visclings will often wander out of curiosity.

    The Pack
In the pack, Lako wasn’t always a high ranking member. He joined before much of the structure had been created with the only clear authority figure being Obscurity herself. Lako didn’t take long to settle in and begin trying to organize things his way, butting heads with Obscurity often. In the current state of the pack and argument with the leader could mean exile or worse, but at that time the pack was less strict. By the time the two got closer, and eventually became mates the pack was forced into shape. Lako tried his best to make sure there was no weakness in the pack, and very little chance of someone betraying them. Most of the members feared him and any dislike for him they had they were forced to keep to themselves.

Credits

Obscurity and Alcide do not exist but were created a long time ago for a lost contest. Currently, there is a tryout for Obscurity here that hasn’t been judged yet.

Eventually, both of these Viscets will exist.

Meant to do this yesterday when I judged the Hellfire viscet lol! I am quite tickled to announce sschw as the winner! I judged the Hellfire before even looking over this comp, and it is really cool to see that Lako and Obscurity go together you may say XD You did win by default, since the other entry did not have all the requirements, however! I just wanted to applaud you for the well-written story elements and how much effort you put into this. It was very nice to see and I am very glad you get to accept this viscet into your family ^-^
