Me and my cousin are in the process of getting three rabbits.
Currently we only have one, but we are expecting two more soon. A pregnant female we should have by Monday and a red male which should be ready in two weeks..
And I know the chances for the expecting moms litter surviving are slim since its her first, but what are the chances a few will survive?

My lionhead mix had a litter of four her first time and they all survived. My dutch had seven but two died. It usually depends on the mothers.
When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son, when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?”

a link to Lily's litter. I've been flipping her and getting the smaller ones to feed more, because it seems like the black one is getting all the food. No one's completely unfed but he is defo the biggest!

It's too bad about the runt, but I was expecting it. He didn't seem to be latching on even when I flipped her, and it seemed like he may have gotten stomped at one point as well.

I have very good luck with my first time moms. :) When I first started in rabbits about 8 years ago, I always heard about losing first litters or what not... but really, I don't have any troubles. I bred 4 does that were all over 2 years old and had never had litters before. Well, they all had nice sized litters and the only ones that were lost were peanuts... but that is a genetic thing, so it has nothing to do with being a first timer. lol I think it really depends on how healthy mom is... her diet and all that. :) I found a great brand of rabbit pellets for them. I was using another and couldn't get babies out of any of my does for a loooooooong time. A few months after the switch, they all were bred very successfully. lol

Lily's Kits, 5 days old.

Lily's doing exceptionally well. I was worried she'd be violent towards me, but during her pregnancy she was much easier to handle, so I worked with her every day, just cuddling her, petting her, making her see that I really am not a horrible person, and that seemed to have helped. I also give her some form of veg before I take the nest out, to distract her. Everyone's pretty fat and sassy, one kit seemed to have missed feeding this morning, so I flipped Lily and she let him nurse enough that he quit popping. Excited for them to be bigger and to be able to figure out what colours everyone is. Kinda sad already about giving them up, but gotta do it. Already have more than enough homes lined up, so when people start backing out, I have back ups.

LOTS OF COLORS! lol
Looks like a blue and a black at the top.
Then a harlequin, chestnut, and... the picture makes it hard to tell, but perhaps a blue marten.

lol pictures are hard to take!! if I put them by themselves, they just wiggle around and make blurs looking for someone to cuddle up with. I think the one beside the harli(either a magpie or a jap dilute, very light compared to mum) might be an otter, myself.

yes, it is very difficult to take baby pictures. lol indeed.

the one between the harli and the blue marten? It's a chestnut because it has the gold ticking on it. otters only come in solid colors (ok, besides fox- "tort otter"). but agouti colors (chestnut, opal, squirrel, chinchilla) also have tan markings like otters/martens.

I need to get a bit more organized, I have two litters of Netherland dwarfs due soon. Need to get cracken and make more breeding boxes for not only them but for my mini rex, satin, mini satin, and Flemish. Anyone pedigree their rabbits? I need a good program my computer got wiped so it took off the other one before i could even use the stupid thing. Stupid free thing, anyways if anyone can help that would be great.

My show and brood animals are all pedigreed. I have a book of pedigrees that I bought from ARBA that I hand write on.
Evans is a great program though. Lots of people recommend it. It costs like $70 though.
