ohhh, my gerbil stumpy is so weird. she's around 2 years old i believe and she never fails to make a bunch of noise :roll:

she'll knock over her wheel, dig a ton, bang the ladder to her aquarium topper against the glass anD slide her food bowl down the ladder.

annoying, but she's one of my favorite pets lol. i really need to buy more stuff for her, all she has atm is a dinky wheel because she chewed up everything else

That's great! G & V are doing well. Almost everytime they come up to the top shelf I handle them and hold them. They are timid though so I put them down and give them a treat if they let me hold them up to a minute.

Hello! I am so excited to be apart of the thread! Here's some stuff about me and my gerbils:)

Me with my Gerbil History: Hey! I'm a female teen from the States who loooves her gerbils. It started in May, where my therapist let me take her Chinese Dwarf Hamster, Peanut, home for the weekend. My dad had seen how happy Peanut made me and decided to take me to the pet store to pick out a friend of my very own! I went to the pet store, and even though I was planning to pick out a hamster, I had seen Cody. He was in the gerbil box, of course, and he was coming in and out from his little house with his friends inside and going on the wheel, picking at bedding, and then going back inside. I immediately fell in love with him, and I went home with Cody and a super tiny cage with literally nothing but a panflip to teach me how to take care of this thing.

The next morning I woke up after doing research the night before, and then I continued research on gerbils. I found out they should be in a pair with a big cage, no plastic, and lot's of bedding. Everything I didn't have. I was terrified, and building up the courage to tell my dad the situation, we went back to the pet store. We bought a 16 gallon thick plastic tub with a clip on lid, a big wooden house, bedding, and most importantly, Socks!

We made our own cage. Yes, I know, it's plastic, but I had given them plenty of things to chew on and they never chew on the box itself. We cut out a square from the lid and one side of the box and replaced it with mesh. All they really had in there was a ton of bedding, a giant wooden house, a food bowl on top of the house, a water bottle, and some wooden chew toys. It sounds like torture and they were lazy, but trust me. They were and still are happy fellows, and I always took them out to play. They loved chewing entries in the house and chasing eachother and snuggling. So much snuggling! It has stayed like that until today.

I have redone their cage, which it is still the same DIY plastic tub. It's 19(L)x12(W)x13(H) In inches. It's not too big. It's not the fancy 300$ tanks everybody has, but I mean, we have tried our best. We have plenty of white bedding and now hay they can chew on and use to make nests, a wheel, 2 small wooden hideouts, their food bowl, and plenty of toys and chew sticks! I sprinkle their food into their bedding and have it in their food bowl which they bury and hide. Socks is in love with the wheel and is riding now as I speak. The little wooden hideouts are like wide logs which the tops are buried in hay and fluff so it gives a more forest-y nature feel. It's much more of an improvement, even though I'm insecure it isn't super big.

But I think it's enough, they are much more active, they love it, and they're having fun. I really do my best to really make them happy, and when I see them happy and prepare them their food and play with them, it makes me happy. I love them and they make me feel loved, even though I've only had them since the end of May, and they are about 6-7 months old now. I really love them. They do truly help me with my life-long battle of depression and anxiety, and I could never thank their furry little selves for that.

Okay, this post got MUCH longer than I opposed so I guess I'll add the gerbil personalities into another post, but I hope you all have a beautiful time with your gerbils! Spend as much time as you can loving them and having them love you! <3
