I just love his red eyes.
I can't wait to set them up in their proper homes. I'm in the process of moving all of my fish to another part of the house, though. It's being a major pain right now, but I'm very excited to get everything up and running. Rather than have fish tanks scattered all over the house, I'm building a display area for all of 'em. A kind of a designated "fish wall" with all of the tanks in leveled rows. It'll hopefully look pretty neat. ^^

I turn my tank light off before I sleep and I turn it on when I wake up; these times are usually around 8:30-9:35 when I turn the tank off, and when I turn it on it's usually at 6:25-6:30. I'm wondering if this is okay to do or not because my sucker fish will usually come out an hour or so from his hiding spot when the lights are off. Is it normal for a sucker fish to hide during the day/when lights are on?

If you don't have any plants in the tank, anything goes in terms of light time. If you have live plants, they only use about 8 hours of light before they 'go to sleep' so to say. What I've found personally to be the easiest way to deal with lights is a timer that will turn them on-off for me and I don't have to be home(/awake) at certain times to turn them on-off. With timer it's also easy to set up a few hour light break middle of the day, which is said to help against algae to some amount. Light break also 'cheats' the daylight time for the plants and generally I can enjoy watching the fish later in the evening than I could without one. I have two separate lights, which go on-off with little time differance; they go on 9.30/10am then off at 1.30/2pm and back on 5/5.30pm and off for the night at 9/9.30pm.
Sucker fishes/plecos, and many other catfishes, in general are quite nocturnal creatures, so coming out after the lights are off is perfectly normal. c:

So I'm starting to think about what fish to put into my 20 gallon (that I'm hoping to have set up within the next two weeks!) with my betta. For sure I'm going to have four panda cories, but a type of fish that I've had in almost every aquarium I owned as a kid was a red eye tetra. I know they're not very flashy fish so I was wondering if it would be OK to house them in the same tank as a betta, and how many I should get for the tank if so?
While I'm at it, I do have another question. I'm going to be putting live freshwater plants into the tank, and I've never owned live plants before, so is there any I should 100% stay clear of?
The fish going into it will be:
A male betta
Four panda cories
Possibly red eye tetras depending on the answer to the above question
Thank you for any help!
