      favourite marine animal: cephalopods and ceteceans, but in terms of fish probably arowana or leopard shark (outside of just marine life, i love bettas (wild and domestic) and goldfish (esp butterflies) - unfortunately my knowledge is pretty limited to pet fish but i'd love to learn more!)
      aquatic interests: personally i am not interested in keeping freshwater fish as they appeal more to me, but i'd love to keep a coral reef one day, i doubt i'd keep any fish with it unless i could ensure they were ethically sources

i'm in the process of planning a pond with my dad in his back garden where we'll keep some goldfish - i initially wanted to keep them indoors but I don't think I'd be able to afford a tank that would be big enough for them. :) thank you for making this thread!

@trhpeanut;; i love rays, i'd love to be able to see one in real life, but i've heard they can be pretty challenging to keep so probably not best for someone like me haha. i think that once we've set up the goldfish pond, i'd love to have a planted aquarium :3c

@peanut
welcome! thanks for reminding me to change 'marine animal' to 'aquatic animal.' c: you have so many aquariums, as well! i have a small 10g for my guppies + mollies + pleco + ghost shrimp. i also have a black moor goldfish, he is so entertaining. i love him so much! p.s. i love the gif in your signature!

@torpor
thanks for joining c'::: it's lovely to be planning to build an outdoor pond! i know someone who built his own koi pond. it's absolutely beautiful. be sure to create some type of system that will shoo predators away from the fish! the aforementioned person lost about 6 adult koi due to animals eating them. he now has a sprinkler system with a motion-sensor.

@Irisidium
hello! i put you down as an avid-tank watcher. i felt it best-matched your 'aquatic interests' description. ;)

Yeah, I don't think we'll have a sprinkler unfortunately because we have an outdoor cat but I'll be absolutely sure that the fish are safe! maybe once it's done I'll be able to post some photos :p

yes, i'd love to see photos! even progress ones, too. c': yikes, a cat would not bode well with a sprinkler system haha. if you create a deep pond, raccoons won't dig in there because they don't like water. OR you could just run out in your pjs and slippers with a broom and charge at the predators with a warcry. all up to you. ;P

@torpor
Rays are super difficult to keep - but, my dad's been taking care of fishtanks since before i was born (So over 28 years)
He got into it for my mother, while he also enjoys it (Reef tanks specifically), my mother always wanted to live by the beach, and we don't. So, he brought the beach to her. :)
Now we have stingrays because they're moms favorite. 2 of them. My mothers is named Cleo, and mine is named Hera. They're so sweet. Cleo loves being hand fed, and getting back rubs from my mother. Where Hera is more of a wild child, and prefers hunting her food and splashing. lol. Hera's only about a year old, though. Where cleo would be around 3ish.

Goldfish would do quite well in a pond, especially since they will get big lol.
I've always wanted a pond as well. Only a Koi pond instead, with a giant Pleco in it too :)

Planted tanks can be difficult to keep as well. I'd suggest for your first one going for "Low light" plants. they'll pretty much grow in any environment, and are easy to care for. If you have a nearby Aquatics store, i'd def. ask them about that. :) to name a few i know off the top of my head: Any Anubias, Anachris, and i've had great success with Moneywort as well.
