Is there anything significant in leveling up your gathering skills? Like, what's the purpose?

All these dragons in my lair are eating up all my meat D: there are a bunch of gen ones here with beautiful colours for cheap I'm actually at this point considering potentially selling the ones not in the AH for a good offer but take a look I'm willing to haggle with those on the auction house

you have pretty purple gen ones xD

XD it's a problem of mine I just love the colour combinations especially of the lavender/cotoncandy/teal just can't find any gene ideas XD

As you reach higher levels, you unlock rarer gathering items. For example, the new lurefish familiars can only be found by people who have a level 31 in Fishing or higher. If you're below that, they won't show up at all.
