Notice:
○ If you participated in the RP before this one, realize that we are starting over completely. None of the characters know each other anymore.
○ I changed the joining-forms quite a lot, so you can't just copy and paste your previous form and put it here.
○ I also changed some other things on the thread. It would be best for you to simply re-read the entire thing.
If you acknowledge these and were in the former RP, add the words 'I understand' in the "Other" section of your form.
Nightingale, England. 1814
It's cold, dark, and raining as you make your way towards the ominous shapes outlined against low-hanging clouds and fog. Faint shadows of mountains stand behind the city and its blankets of surrounding mist.
You've heard of strange things happening in this city, and many of them are unbelievable. You're here to see for yourself whether or not Nightingale is really as magical as it seems.
As you pass a bridge over the small canal and into the city, you realize just how dark the place is. Not only do dark clouds fill the sky, but the city's entire esscence just seems daunting. Every alleyway manages to hold new dangers, and every person seems to harbor tightly-knit secrets. The whole city is full of mystery, and you're just about to find out what Nightingale has to offer.
Rules:
Read these rules thoroughly. I know when you haven't. If you do not follow these rules, I will kick you out of this RP. You have three strikes.
• Most of Tess' rules do apply here.
• Some minor adult themes are allowed and will be used here. Alcohol use, suggestive themes, minor cussing, violence, etc. If you are younger than 13, I wouldn't advise joining this RP.
• Cussing is fine, just star a few letters out.
• I expect you to be mature and somewhat literate. However, I would appreciate no six-paragraph posts. (That way, we have time to respond.) Just one paragraph filled with varying articles, creative sentence-starters, proper grammar, and proper punctuation.
• When speaking out of character, use perenthesis, brackets, or OOC. ( ) or [ ] or OOC:/ooc:
• YOUR CHARACTER WILL ACT REALISTIC. Imagine what you or your character would do in a certain situation. Seriously. Use common sense, please. Just remember what other characters look like. If their appearance is off-putting, your character will probably react. If the other character is really creepy looking, people will stare or grimace. That's normal. We make our characters that way on purpose. It doesn't offend us, unless you go overboard. Depending on your character's personality, I'll make small exceptions.
• You will not God mod, Mary sue, Gary sue, Auto-hit, or Power-play. If one of these terms is foreign to you, don't join.
• Realize that breaking common laws will cause you to be chased. You will RP the part law-enforcers, so I expect you to be reasonable. YOU WILL NOT GET AWAY EVERY TIME. It's considered power-playing, and will earn you a strike. A few times, and I don't mind. But if you do it constantly...
• If another character manages to capture you or immobilize you, don't be obnoxious and get away immediately. Roll with it for a bit, then you may possibly escape.
• This should be common knowledge, but acts against someone's character should be done from a character's perspective. It's not supposed to be offensive to the actual person. I don't care if you hate the other user. Don't bring it into the RP.
• It all takes place in the 1800s. There is nothing modern in this RP. Use good judgement.
• Don't make your character have rediculous superpowers, okay? Wings are fine, as is quickened healing. But don't go overboard. The more power they have, the more weaknesses they should have.
• I do allow and enjoy unnatural characters, as long as their abnormality doesn't give them an extreme advantage. Feel free to make them really strange. My characters are.
• This is a fantasy RP. Therefore, there are fantasy creatures. Your chracter does not have a large pet dragon, unicorn, cerberus, or anything else that will give them a rediculous advantage. The mythical pets must be small. Small dragons are fine, as are other little creatures. Just please, don't be stupid about it.
• I don't care how many characters you have. Just don't go overboard.
• You must have permission before mauling/killing another character.
• Many RPs prohibit you from letting your own characters fall in love. I, however, don't mind. Feel free to do so.
• Your characters may reproduce. Even though this is a humanoid RP, I don't care.
• Gore is fun. Incredibly graphic mating and birth is not. PG-13.
• If you are going to be gone for more than a week, tell me. I expect you to be active on this thread, and if you aren't on for more than two weeks, I'll kill off your character(s). You won't get them back.
• When filling out the form, if the picture/character design doesn't 100% belong to you, don't use it. Also, put a link to the picture in the post, don't literally add the whole image.
• This is not an auto-accept. Even if you are already part of this RP, wait for me to accept your character. I don't want to take any chances.
• Even if there are only two people online, you can still RP. I don't care, and tend to do it often.
• I don't care what the history of England is. Don't let your character start bringing up major events. This is a different timeline. However, it does take place in the 1800s, so there is nothing modern involved. There are guns, contrary to what everyone seems to think. But I don't want modern terms used, nor modern clothing. No jeans or sneakers. Keep it authentic. I strongly enforce this rule.
• Don't spam or double-post without reason. And never. Ever. Advertise here.
• If you've actually read this far, please put 'rainbow leopard spots' in Other. ^^ Use an extremely small font. So small, that it is not visible without zooming in. I'm tired of people reading what everybody else has put in Other, then typing that without reading the rules. It's obnoxious, so this will hopefully deter some of them.
• I may add more rules later...
• To be nice, I might warn you each time you get a strike. But don't test my patience, because I have very little.
• I will read through your past posts as RPs to judge your literacy level. I may let you join even if you have horrible literacy, but I expect you to improve. According to me, if you aren't literate and intelligent with your posts, it's spam.
• That should be it. I reserve the right to kick you out if you violate any of these rules. Three strikes. Not including the secret phrase is considered a strike. I'm harsh. Deal with it. Sometimes I'm nice, and will bend the rules regarding strikes. My rules, my decision.
If these rules bother you, don't join.

Be glad if your username is on this list. You have been given a 'second chance.' Don't screw yourself over by messing up again. Your username will be removed from the 'inactive' list and only the 'inactive' list once you start posting again. Only post if you're not going to neglect your duties in the future. Either warn me of your absence in advance, or get kicked out of my RP. My patience is wearing thin with whoever is listed below. Don't push me.
Also, don't try to tell me that you've been gone or offline. I check your profiles, wondering what the hell is going on. I know if you've been online or not. I'm not an idiot. Attempting to fool me is stupid. It won't work.
Yes, there are some exeptions. That doesn't mean that I'm taking you off the list, as you never told me in advance.
Character-type overviews:
Non-magic users:
Normal people who do not hold the ability to wield any type of magic. Some can learn magic, but this generally only happens at a young age.
Mages:
Mages are often hired for various jobs that cannot be completed by an average human, though some have normal jobs. Nearly all belong to a guild or brotherhood. Most are noble, and have a sense of pride. They can specialize in fire, water, wind, earth, ice, lightning, light, or shadow magic. Mages are almost always more powerful than magicians, and will usually win in one-on-one combat. Keep this in mind if you are playing a magician. You will normally lose against a mage. It is rare to find a mage that doesn't look down on Magicians. In fact, just the idea of Magician should disgust them. According to mages, magicians practice 'unclean,' 'impure,' or 'dark' magic. Mages usually have much more money than commoners and magicians.
Magicians:
Often called 'Corrupt mages', magicians take quite a low place in society. So they're looked down on by pretty much everybody. Magician magic comes in the all the same varieties of mage magic, excluding light, but normally involves common objects as well. (A deck of cards, scissors, knives, swords, etc. Be creative.) Magician elemental-magic is much less precise and defined, and is, therefore, much weaker than mage magic. Magicians tend to use simple techniques involving their element, as they rarely have proper training. So they incorporate everyday objects into their magic, increasing effectiveness. Magicians, like mages, have a strong sense of pride and are quick to protect their reputation as magic-users, but generally, the common law means very little to them. Quite amusingly, magicians never really have much money, leaving them with few career options. Some people may hire them like mages, but they usually just take common jobs. Instead of guilds and brotherhoods, magicians are generally found in gangs.
○ It is not uncommon for streetfights to break out between different groups. Gang x Brotherhood, Gang x Gang, mage x magician. It is less common for two mage groups to fight, but it still may happen. A Gang x Guild, full-on battle has never taken place, and probably won't for quite a while.
○ If a mMage and magician become a couple, they and and their offspring are instantly looked down upon. Mage and magician crossbreeds are nearly unheard of, and I would appreciate it if you avoided making your character one.
○ They are not wizards, and therefore do not use spells, wands, or staves to perform their magic. They use their hands.
○ In some cases, mages and magicians use instruments to direct their element, but they are not required for the magic to actually work.
Magic Overview:
There are eight types of magic; fire, water, wind, earth, ice, lightning, light, and shadow. Each takes mana, the driving energy that allows a mage or magician to practice magic. Not every human posesses mana, or they simply cannot learn how to use it. Both mages and magicians use mana, regardless of what type of magic they perform. Any magic consumes mana. mana can run out, and it takes a while to replenish. If a mage or magician loses all of his mana, he is likely to die.
It is rare to find a magic-user that can use more than one element.
Be creative with your character's powers, just try to be reasonable.
Element List:
I'll tell you right now that these symols aren't even close to being accurate. They aren't meant to be. Truthfully, I only wanted single symbols that could possibly used to represent each element. These ones just happened to strike me as 'sexy'. So shoot me, you freak.
Each magic-user will have a symbol put next to their name that corresponds with their element.
Fire И | Water Ψ | Ice Φ | Wind Λ | Earth Σ | Electricity Ω | Light Ш | Shadow Җ
Magic Basics:
All magic-users can make small things levitate, though this technique is mostly used by magicans. Mages and magicians can slightly increase their strength using mana, and can create weak sheilds of pure mana. The higher level a mage/magician, the more powerful their basic magic is.
Healing Magic:
Most light mages are healers. They are weak in one-on-one battle, but are still extremely helpful to any sized groups. Light-magic users are called 'medics' and are very few in number, making them very important. It is a more advanced magic that requires a steady hand and a lot of mana. Pay is easy to come by for Light users, as they are hired in place of doctors a lot of the time. Light users cannot bring the dead back to life. Ever.
Animal Form:
Contrary to the original thread, both mages and magicians can shift into an animal form. Upon shifting, a magic-user disappears into a puff of smoke and emerges in their animal form. Each magic-user only has one animal form, and that form is not of an incredibly conspicuous animal. So no dragons, anthros, or anything else. It must be inconspicuous.
The magic-user's animal form is rarey used for fighting, as it is much weaker than their humanoid form, so I don't want to see them shifting very often. An animal form is generally just used for travel or fleeing battle.
Organizations:
Brotherhoods consist of 3 to 14 members. Guilds are 15+ (Specifically Mages.)
Gangs consist of 2+ members. (Specifically Magicians.)
We need a guild, so PM me if you're interested in making one.
- Blackjack (Gang):
Blackjack is a gang led by card-obsessed Neil. He decided that Blackjack would originally consist of five members, each representing a suit; Hearts, Diamonds, Spades, Clubs, and Joker. (Neil, you crazy bastard...) Over time, Blackjack earned the reputation of a somewhat 'welcoming' Gang, as Neil will allow almost any magician to join. But really, his willingess to let someone into the gang is dependant on his mood and current level of sanity.
Headquaters location: The Blackjack headquarters are in a somewhat burnt-down, abandoned building. Unimpressive, really, but it's good enough for them.

Characters:
It might take me some time to link each new character's form. Please be patient.

The little grey number next to each name is the character's age, and the funny looking symbol stands for a magic-user's element. Commoners do not have colored symbols.
Yes, I realize that it's a colorful mess. Do I plan to fix it? Silly question. No.

City Overview:
Nightingale is a relatively large city located near a cluster of mountains. Due to it's somewhat high-altitude location, the city is often cloudy or shrouded in fog. It rains quite frequently in Nightingale, and, even in the summer, it is rather chilly.
Its layout is similar to most European cities in the sense that the buildings are uniform and surround main, cobblestone streets.
