Remember the parents you saw in Season 1 looking for their lost children? Well those are the Quagmire's parents, not the Baudelaires', and here's why.
Season 2, Episode 2 "The Austere Academy: Part 2"
This is the photo of both the Baudelaire children and Quagmire triplets parents. The Baudelaire children have been holding onto this photo since Season 1. The identity of their parents have been worn out and then fungus drips on them in Season 2 when they're inside the shack. The Quagmires point out that their parents are in the photo and they wouldn't have seen their parents' identity if it was covered by fungus. The Baudelaires' also pointed to the middle couple and identified them as their parents in Season 1. The Quagmire's parents are the couple to the left of the one in the middle, which was the couple looking for their children in Season 1.
Season 2, Episode 9: "Carnivorous Carnival: Part 1"
This is the same photo as the one above. Olivia (aka the "Fortune Teller") had films and records of VFD in her tent. There was a rumor of one of their parents surviving the fire told by Jacques Snicket. This was a clear picture of the Baudelaire children's parents identity in the film of the same photo. You can now see both of their parent's faces in the picture which leads to the surviving parent of the Baudelaire children... take a closer look at the mother. She'll be important in the next episode. (Here is a closer look at the clear photo.)
Season 2, Episode 10 "Carnivorous Carnival: Part 2"
Remember the leather gloves that snatched the sugar bowl from the hospital? Her identity is revealed in the last episode at the time 38:32. Lemony Snicket claims to know this woman very well. As you can see from previous photos, Lemony Snicket is in the photo with the Quagmire and Baudelaire's parents as they were all a part of VFD (Volunteer Fire Department) Organization. If you take a closer look at the woman in the middle of the Lucky Smells photo, you can see she is the same woman as the one revealed here. She is the surviving mother of the Baudelaire children. The couple in the first season was a distraction to be interpreted as their real parents to throw you off, but you were actually looking at the Quagmire triplet's parents the whole time.
Mind blown.
