Lilian Nightshade's retirement in particular was not announced.

You may still see pets from retired artists after their retirement, regardless of whether or not their retirement was announced, for two possible reasons:
1) Before retiring, they made pets that either they or an admin wanted to be released in a month/event that would happen after their retirement
2) After retiring, they made new pets as a guest artist
